Introduction

Belgium is located in the west of Europe and is bordered to the east by Germany and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, to the north by the Netherlands and the south and west by France. The country is the home of the European Commission and houses various other international organisations.

There are no restrictions towards foreigners buying property in Belgium and Brussels is the most expensive area to buy property in the country, largely due to the influx of EU workers, whilst outside the city, it is possible to pick up a surprisingly cheap property. Unfortunately, any savings you may have made through the reasonably price property will be lost due to the incredibly high buying cost incurred which amounts to an incredible 17% on top of the total purchase price of the property.

Standards of living in Belgium are high with the country attaining a Human Development Index (HDI) rating within the top ten best countries in the world. The HDI rating rates factors including life expectancy at birth, the average adult literacy rate and the gross domestic product of the citizens of a country.
