Cyprus is an island located in the eastern area of the Mediterranean and is second in size only to Sicily and Sardinia. It should be noted that Cyprus is essentially made up of two separate nations. This guide profiles the Republic of Cyprus, which entered into the EU in May 2004 and not the Turkish ruled North Cyprus, which is not internationally recognised and has a permanent population of peacekeeping troops.

The separation of the countries should not, however, discourage you from considering investing in property in the Republic of Cyprus. The island has one of the sunniest climates in the whole of the Mediterranean and is a haven for holidaymakers worldwide.

Cyprus has a rich history, which dates as far back as the 7th millennium BC and encompasses Greek, Roman, Turkish, North African and British influences over the years. Cyprus obtained independence from British rule in 1960 and was admitted into the EU in 2004. Since then the property market on the island has flourished with annual increases of 20% common.
